Comal ISD Hosts Dyslexia Awareness Night Oct. 17

September 16, 2024 - Comal ISD is hosting its annual Dyslexia Awareness Night 6-7 pm. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the boardroom at Comal ISD Support Services building, 1404 IH-35 North, New Braunfels.

Dyslexia Awareness Night is a great opportunity to learn more about dyslexia and how Comal ISD addresses the needs of students identified with dyslexia through the multisensory teaching approach (MTA) program. A guest speaker from Learning Ally, an audiobook program used by the district, will share more information about how it benefits students with reading difficulties.

In addition, the evening will include stations led by many of the district's dyslexia teachers, and a dyslexia simulation that provides awareness to what an individual with dyslexia or a learning difference might experience in an educational setting. Attendees will have an opportunity to gather information and ask questions at the various stations.

The event will be capped off with recognitions and celebrations. Winners of this year’s Kids with heART district art contest will be announced followed by the celebration of more than 20 providers of dyslexia instruction who completed a two-year advanced dyslexia-related certification process to become Licensed Dyslexia Therapists, Certified Academic Language Therapists or Certified Academic Language Practitioners.

Families of identified students, families with questions, or any individual who wants to learn more about dyslexia are invited to attend. Children are welcome to join with their parents. Activities will be available for them to enjoy.
