January 26, 2024 - Comal ISD has three campuses among the best of the best in the San Antonio area according to the rankings by Children at Risk.

“It is an honor to be ranked as the #1 elementary school in the San Antonio area,” says Amanda Schumann, principal of Hoffmann Lane Elementary. “Our student success is a result of the collaborative teamwork and effort of our staff, families and community.”
The 2022-2023 school year analysis covers 582 public schools in the San Antonio area including 349 elementary schools and 157 middle schools and 76 high schools.
“We are honored to have three campuses among this year’s top-ranking schools in the San Antonio area,” says Comal ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. John E. Chapman. “This is a testament to our campus leadership which truly strives to meet the needs of every student who walks through our doors. They know every student by name and by need. They not only teach them; they care for them.”
For the past 19 years, Children at Risk has ranked Texas public schools to help parents, educators and community members better understand how their local schools are performing.
“It is an honor to be ranked as the #2 high school in the San Antonio area,” says Joseph Murguia, principal of Memorial Early College High School with Northeast Lakeview College. “We are proud of our students’ performance and growth, and we celebrate our hardworking and caring staff. Together, we have established a culture of high academic and behavioral expectations, allowing for the continued success of every student.”
Elementary schools and middle schools were ranked across three main areas while high schools were ranked across four main areas.
Those areas include student achievement, how students do on state standardized tests; campus performance, how a school compares in test scores to schools with similar levels of poverty; student growth, how students improve on their STAAR tests in a school year; and college readiness for high schools only, how many high school students are graduating on time and participating in other college readiness activities.
