January 24, 2024 - The Comal Independent School District has received the Texas Thespians Premier Communities for Theatre Education 2023-2024 Award, making it one of only 14 districts in the state to receive the honor. More than 1,026 districts in the state were eligible for this award.
Furthermore, this is the district’s second year in a row to be awarded the distinction which recognizes and honors school districts that provide their theatre programs with the resources to achieve above standard as rooted in the Educational Theatre Association’s Opportunity to Learn Standards, Texas Theatre Knowledge and Skills for Fine Arts (TEKS) and support of Thespian Troupe involvement.
“What an honor it is to receive this award for the second year in a row,” says Gary Cooper, Comal ISD’s director of fine arts. “We have an amazing group of talented theatre teachers in both our high schools and middle schools who share their professional skills and passion with our students ever day. They each deserve this recognition.”
